Learner Profiles
Is this lesson for me?
These are some of the people we had in mind when we wrote this lesson.
Aino is a first-year PhD student in microbiology. She has collected stool samples and received a table of species abundances from a sequencing facility. She has recently finished the Introduction to data analysis with R and Bioconductor lesson but has never analysed microbiome data. She wants to know where to start and which analyses are standard in the field.
Einari is a medical researcher studying colorectal cancer. He reads many microbiome papers and wants to understand what alpha diversity, beta diversity and differential abundance actually mean, so that he can judge the results of others and run a first analysis himself.
Lumi is a bioinformatician who has analysed RNA-seq
data with Bioconductor. She has been asked to help with a microbiome
project. She knows R and SummarizedExperiment well, but she
needs to learn what is special about microbiome data and which tools to
use.
